“I always wanted to die clean and pretty, but I’d be too busy on working days. So I am relieved that the turbulence wasn’t forcasted I couldn’t have changed anyways.” -Last Words of a Shooting Star by Mitski

I feel that that lyric means that we always picture our life being so different and going as planned, and that we always have this fantasy of how we would like to live and die. As well as how our presence would linger afterwards in the admiration of our family and friends. I think the song is about the thoughts someone has when they know they’re about to die, or at least what Mitski would think about. You reflect on how you’ve lived up until this moment and a lot of us aren’t satisfied. She thinks about how she imagined how she would die, and accepts it by saying that she doesn’t believe that she would have died how she always wanted anyways. She’s also thankful that she is going to die so unexpectedly because now she will die with honesty for herself, rather than just dying at the right time and dying ‘clean and pretty’.

19, passionate, in kind of a weird spot. I’ll probably write about edgy stuff.
