How Participation Trophies Created a Purposeless Generation
Benjamin Sledge

This is probably the best thing I’ve ever seen written on Medium. I’ve always thought of failure as the stepladder we stand on to reach success. It does serve a purpose. While it is something to be hated, it should not be feared. When you really think about it, giving out these participation trophies is more to assuage the feelings of the organizers and coaches, but in doing so robs the participants of a valuable learning experience. Show me a person with no failures and I’ll show you a person with no triumphs.
