I totally had a similar reaction before to someone who spoke to me rudely in a cafe. The guy basically said I was taking up space when there were other people, like him, waiting for a seat (I was finishing up a cup of tea and was reading a book). Having never had someone so bluntly address me like that before, I froze up, and I was furious at myself after I left the cafe for not saying anything in my defense. There was some small joy in hearing the guy getting some reprimands from the people sitting near me, but it was after I already packed my things and was exiting the cafe. It’s important for us to stand up for ourselves when something like this happens, but it’s also important that we not let it happen to other people!
