The Missouri Western Dance Company, founded by Jordan Alford back in 2017 is up and running and has big plans moving forward. With little to no opportunity to dance on campus, Alford decided to create a dance company allowing students to come together and showcase their dancing talents.

“Starting the Missouri Western Dance Company was such a blessing in disguise,” Alford said. “I have come to meet and love so many people. It is really cool to see how everyone brings their talents to the table and we are able to put them all together to make great performances. My favorite part of it all is our practices because we have a lot of fun, but we also get a lot of work done.”

Stepney was added to the family for his expertise in stepping and showing the crew new, creative ways to perform. Originally part of a step team at Missouri Western his from year, Stepney joined the MWDC to share his talents and learn a few things about dancing. He joined the team and immediately was named a captain and took on that leadership role with lots of pride.

“My sophomore year I was sitting in Scanlon in the middle of the lobby and Jordan approached me saying she wanted to make a dance company on campus,” Stepney said. “She knew that I could step and asked me to join on board and to help teach. At first, I did not take it serious and thought it was just going to be a neat idea. The next thing I know, we are hosting auditions and more and more people have begun to show up. Fast forward and now we are doing performances all over and that’s pretty much how it came to be.”

The now two-year program has grown from about 15 members to a little over 30 going into this current semester. The MWDC will be hosting auditions this Saturday, April 20 looking to increase their size even more and continue the success that they have endured over the past two years. The dance company usually puts on around seven performances per semester as they perform as demanded. They continue to look for more opportunities and people to better themselves and keep the trend going.
