You are correct in your statement that there is nothing wrong with scaffolding for those students who require it to succeed and be on a level playing field with other students. Certainly, a language barrier can be a huge obstacle for a child to overcome, especially when paired with the anxiety that comes with taking an assessment. Providing the appropriate scaffolding for a child to be on the same level as his or her peers will help both academically and with the child’s self-confidence, which will help create a safe space for students to learn and grow from one another instead of being wary of each others differences.
