ANN ARBOR CHAPTER OF GIRL DEVELOP IT ANNOUNCES PUBLIC SPEAKING THROUGH LIGHTNING TALKS WORKSHOP

ANN ARBOR, MI

The Ann Arbor Chapter of Girl Develop It announces it is hosting the workshop Public Speaking Through Lightning Talks. The workshop consists of four sessions: Session One “Intro to Public Speaking” takes place on Tuesday, August 15; Session Two “Intro to Teaching” is on Thursday, August 17; Session Three “Intro to Lightning Presentations” is on Tuesday, August 22; and Session Four “Leveling Up Your Speaking Skills” is on Thursday, August 24. Each session starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. The workshop will be held at GDI Infotech Inc., which is located at 3775 Varsity Drive, Ann Arbor, MI.

A lightning talk is a short presentation which is usually only a few minutes in duration. Due to their brevity, they are often a good starting point for people who want to gain more experience in public speaking.

This workshop is designed to increase attendees’ confidence in their speaking abilities. Attendees will learn the basics of giving a strong presentation. They will also practice their speaking skills and will receive feedback in a friendly, judgment — free environment. The workshop will provide tips on what to avoid when speaking in public. A laptop and charger is needed for all sessions.

The fee to attend the workshop is $125.00 for all four sessions, which is used to support the organization’s mission. Registration is limited to 25 students. Food and beverages will be provided by the workshop’s sponsor GDI Infotech.

Scholarship applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the date of the first class. Scholarship recipients will be notified via email at least one week before the workshop.

The workshop instructor, Emily Drier, is a graduate of Michigan State University and began her career as an English teacher. After teaching for a few years, Emily moved to the technology industry working in search engine optimization. She is currently the Project Manager for Boxcar Studio.
