David, I am so sorry about the turmoil you went through this weekend. I want you to know that I was watching for the vote all night with hope and deep concern for you and your parishioners. I was sad to learn of the outcome. So sad for you, for alto, for your community, for the larger church, and for the larger LGBT community.

As you know I am not a religious person. On some level the vote doesn’t surprise me — even in a progressive church. And on some level, I am hopeful that this step backward (and by such a small margin), will bring people together to organize and to keep pushing for equity and justice. And then I saw the video of your archbishop this morning and am once again crossing my fingers in hopes that he makes the right decision and stand with progress.

And I am so glad that you have alto to be your refuge. You are both lucky to have each other!
