I am curious, other than hollow rhetoric, what does Trump offer by way of solutions? Most thoughtful economists would state his proposed remedies will only make matters worse, not better. So beyond this election, what are solutions to globalization, which have both positive and negative consequences? If you are one who is negatively impacted by a plant closing (as they move abroad), I fully appreciate one’s anger.
I’ve written elsewhere here that after years of visiting China on business and seeing factories representing American and European companies, one difference is that some European counties impose an exit tax, so “no worker is left behind”. These funds are used to retrain workers. I realize this is but one small element of a larger conversation about the concentration of enormous wealth in the hands of the few.
