My Experience with Soundraw

You don’t need to sign up to try Soundraw.

Select the length of the song.

Then select the Genre:

I chose Ambient and in 10 seconds it generated 6 songs.

The first song was very impressive!

I wanted to download the track but I saw that I must create an account for that.

Next, it asks for a payment plan:

You also have the option to skip the subscription.

However, it won’t let you download the track without a subscription, and it makes sense.

You have the option to mix the melody, backing, bass, drums, and fills.

The Bass was impressive! It sounded so professional. I am amazed at what this tool can do with a single click.

You can erase sections of the song you don’t like from this panel, and also play with more options like: length, bpm, instruments, key and volume.

I liked the Instruments option.

The first 3 songs were quite similar in tone and melody, but the next were different.

There are no lyrics or vocals on these tracks though. Nevertheless, I think this software is quite impressive.

I tried other genres but this time I had to wait longer for the generation of music to take place. It took almost a minute to generate 6 tracks.

Pros:

  • Offers unlimited royalty-free music generation with AI-powered tools, providing users with complete creative control and flexibility.
  • Provides seamless song customization options, allowing users to experiment with different styles and genres.
  • Offers a range of subscription plans and an API plan for businesses, catering to different needs and budgets.

I chose to generate a new track. I have added the text prompt for a “cinematic track for a nature documentary”. I set the duration at 2 min and hit the “Generate track” button.

After 1 minute the track was ready.

The song was ok, but I did not like the fact that once every 10 seconds the sound “Mubart” is heard as a watermark.

It is not possible to download the track without signing up.

I have signed up, and you must subscribe to a plan to download the track.

I generated another cinematic track and this one sounded better at a higher bpm of 140.

The last try I gave it was for a different genre, a deep house track and I must say it was quite good with a nice melody and rhythm.

This time I went with a cinematic track prompt.

But I did not like how the track started.

And I went with the final free prompt:

And here is the last track — https://jmp.sh/rJNyw3OH

It is calm and ambiental, however, way too short for 15 seconds.

It would have been nice to listen to at least 45–1 min of this track.

How do AI Music Generators work?

As you explore AI music generators, you’ll likely encounter a range of complex algorithms that enable these systems to create music.

You’ll discover that neural networks and deep learning techniques are commonly used to analyze and generate musical patterns, but that’s not all — other approaches like generative adversarial networks, variational autoencoders, Markov chains, and reinforcement learning also play a vital role.

Neural Networks and Deep Learning

AI music generators utilize neural networks, a subset of machine learning, which employ deep learning techniques to analyze and process vast amounts of musical data, allowing them to generate novel melodies, harmonies, and rhythms.

You might be familiar with DeepMind, a pioneer in AI research, which has developed impressive neural networks for music generation.

These networks are trained on massive datasets of songs, learning patterns and relationships between notes, chords, and rhythms.

The algorithm then uses this knowledge to create new, unique compositions.

AI-powered learning algorithms, like those developed by Google, can even generate music in specific styles or moods.

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)

To plunge deeper into the inner workings of AI music generators, let’s explore Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), a type of deep learning architecture that pits two neural networks against each other to generate novel and coherent musical compositions.

One network, the generator, produces ai-generated music, while the other, the discriminator, evaluates the output, determining how realistic it sounds.

Through this adversarial process, the generator improves, creating more convincing music.

In music generation, GANs can be used for tasks like text-to-music synthesis, where lyrics are transformed into melodies.

This generative approach enables the creation of unique, complex musical pieces that mightn’t have been possible otherwise.

Variational Autoencoders (VAEs)

You’re probably wondering how AI music generators can learn the intricate patterns and structures of music, and that’s where Variational Autoencoders (VAEs) come in, offering a powerful way to model complex musical distributions.

VAEs are a type of neural network that can compress and reconstruct music data, allowing them to capture the underlying patterns and structures of music.

This enables AI music generators to generate music that sounds natural and coherent.

With VAEs, you can create customizable music models that can produce a wide range of music styles and genres.

By leveraging VAEs, AI technology can generate music that’s not only unique but also tailored to specific moods, emotions, and preferences.

This breakthrough in AI music generation has opened up new possibilities for music creation, making it possible to produce high-quality music with unprecedented speed and efficiency.

Markov Chains and Statistical Methods

Two fundamental concepts underlying AI music generators are Markov chains and statistical methods, which empower these systems to analyze and replicate the patterns found in musical compositions.

Markov chains are mathematical models that can predict the next note or chord in a sequence based on the previous ones. They’re particularly useful in generating MIDI files, as they can produce coherent and structured melodies.

Statistical methods, on the other hand, allow AI systems to identify patterns and trends in large datasets of music.

By combining these techniques, AI music generators can generate music that’s both novel and similar in style to the training data.

For instance, an AI system can generate a new melody that’s reminiscent of a particular artist’s style, or even complete an unfinished composition.

The possibilities are endless!

Reinforcement Learning

By leveraging reinforcement learning, AI music generators can optimize their output through trial and error, fundamentally teaching themselves to create music that resonates with listeners.

You’ll find that this approach enables AI to generate unique and enchanting melodies, as the system receives feedback on its performance and adjusts its strategy accordingly.

Through reinforcement learning, AI-powered music generators can identify patterns and relationships between notes, rhythms, and harmonies, allowing them to create complex and coherent compositions.

What’s more, this technology makes it possible for users to input their preferences, ensuring a user-friendly experience that yields personalized results.

As AI continues to generate music that’s both innovative and enjoyable, it’s clear that reinforcement learning plays a crucial role in shaping the future of music creation.

Transfer Learning

This AI music generator’s ability to learn from existing datasets and fine-tune its skills on specific musical styles allows it to create highly realistic and diverse compositions.

Through transfer learning, you can leverage the knowledge gained from one task and apply it to another related task.

In music generation, this means the AI can learn from a vast library of songs and adapt to create new compositions that mirror the style of a particular artist or genre.

With transfer learning, AI music tools can learn to recognize patterns and relationships between notes, melodies, and rhythms, enabling the generator to create complex and coherent compositions.

Symbolic and Audio-Based Approaches

As you explore the capabilities of AI music generators, you’ll discover that they employ two primary approaches to create music: symbolic and audio-based methods.

Symbolic AI, like AIVA, uses algorithms to generate musical scores, focusing on chord progressions, melody, and harmony. This approach produces high-quality, structurally sound music.

On the other hand, audio-based methods analyze and manipulate audio files to create new sounds. These generators can produce impressive audio quality, but may lack the musical structure and coherence of symbolic AI.

Human-AI Collaboration

You step into the role of a music producer, and AI music generators become your collaborators, assisting you in creating melodies, harmonies, and rhythms that blend your creative vision with their algorithmic prowess.

Through human-AI collaboration, you can create music that’s both innovative and polished. AI tools help you compose by generating ideas, experimenting with sounds, and refining your work.

Using AI, you can focus on the creative aspects of music production while the AI handles the more mundane tasks.

Together, you and the AI can push the boundaries of what’s possible in music creation.

Music Theory and Rules-Based Systems

Now that you’ve experienced the creative potential of human-AI collaboration, let’s peel back the curtain to explore the underlying mechanics that power AI music generators, which rely heavily on music theory and rules-based systems to produce harmonious and structured soundscapes.

These systems use music theory to analyze and generate melodies, chord progressions, and harmonies within a specific genre.

You can input parameters like tempo, mood, and instrumentation through an intuitive interface, and the AI will create a composition based on these rules.

By combining music theory with machine learning algorithms, AI music generators can produce complex and coherent pieces that sound surprisingly human.

This fusion of creativity and technicality allows you to experiment with different styles and genres, revealing new possibilities in music creation.

Evaluation and Feedback Mechanisms

AI music generators employ sophisticated evaluation and feedback mechanisms that assess the generated music against a set of predefined criteria, such as melody coherence, harmony consistency, and rhythmic accuracy.

As you interact with the generator, it provides real-time feedback, allowing you to adjust parameters and customize the output to your liking.

This ease of use enables you to focus on the creative aspects of the creation process, resulting in original songs that sound like they were crafted by a human composer.

The feedback mechanisms also help the generator learn from its mistakes, refining its algorithms to produce higher-quality music over time.
