What’s driving the interest and adoption of DevOps?

Motivations are as many and varied as people themselves, but for the most part we’re being driven by the need to find or eliminate competitive advantage. Most commonly, people have become aware that either competitors are becoming more agile and lower time and cost to deliver value to end users is giving them a competitive advantage, or we realize that we can gain competitive advantage by developing those qualities ourselves.

In 1900, the average tenure of a company on the fortune 100 list was 75 years. Now, that tenure has shrunk to 15 years. Certainly the truth of the adage “adapt or die” has never been more immediately observable than it is in the ultra-connected, fast moving world that we have now.
