The Login Albatross

So, sometimes things seem great in theory but don’t always pan out in practice. I think it may have been someone famous who said something to that effect. I can’t remember. Anyway…

Geekin Radio launched yesterday and the only way to login is using Twitter authorization. This was a less than ideal, but necessary. I would like to take a moment to explain…

We are a scrappy startup team. Our small dev team cannot be beat. But they CAN be overworked and pushed to the point of exhaustion. We wanted to get to market as quickly as possible because we think that Geekin really has a chance to make an impact on the streaming music scene. In order to do this we decided to forgo Android development for a period of time AND we decided to use Twitter for our users to be able to login because it was quick, and easy and, because of the way our app works, we didn’t have to worry about storage of user profile data.

It was a quick fix that we now know was not the best way to go. We should have had a non-third party dependent login method.

We are working diligently to launch an update to correct this and we hope that if you hit the Twitter front door, and decided to move along, you will consider trying again. Thanks folks. We look forward to Geekin with you.
