Hi! I’m Julie and Bonnie is my Mother. Over the years I have tried to write a number of different blogs, about varying subjects, none of them survived. I started this blog for my mother in 2008 after I realized she had numerous journals she had been writing in for over 10 years. She is now nearing 90 and no longer writes as much as she used to; suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease has begun taking its toll on her life. She still lives with me, at the time I’m writing this.
As long as she continues to write, I will post excerpts from her journals for other’s to enjoy and learn about “The Greatest Generation”. This is the beginning of her blog and what she has recorded for history.
I recently revived it and have started publishing a new post each Sunday. Watch here, over the next week or two, for all the posts to bring you to present day.
The Beginnings of a Grandmother’s Journal
Welcome to my Generation
Hi this is Julie, sometime in the mid 90’s mom and I started doing research on our family history. We traveled to family reunions in Iowa several times, over the years, and met some of the Mackey and other families that still live there. I started a extensive family tree record, including lots of photographs of both sides of our family (Stelzer & Borchard) at that time and have tried to keep it us as best I can.
Mom (Bonnie Elizabeth Borchard) came to live with me in Denver in 2005 from Paducha, Kentucky; where she had lived for the past 20 or so years. A year later I was transferred to Texas after the Macy’s & May Company Merger. Upon moving to Frisco I found she had a number of different journals she had been writing in since the 90’s.
I started this blog for her so she would have a place to record a lot of the scribbles she has done in those journals. I believe some of the stories are worth while and things that her family may one day like to read, I found them interesting. She may or may not figure out how to use the internet enough to put the writings up herself, so I may end up having to do it for her. At any rate, I’ll try to keep up with it and send out a notice so everyone can read the things she (or I) am putting up.
