Fortunate Company

Perched atop the minds of giants, sometimes I believe we see
Not the profits we’re indebted to, from fortunate company.
They say stand tall, focus ahead, root your toes in the earth
That’s cerebral beyond touch, unknown to you, an intellect-expanding girth.
But an ego-banishing look south will hollow a vision thought clear,
Will detail the foundation of your inspiration, your hubris will disappear.
Self-made, rags-to-riches, started from scratch, what have you,
But peer straight down, look around, and tell me that’s still true.
