What is a degree?

The degree is a certificate given to the student by the University for the Successful Completion of studies. Admissions to a degree program are done yearly. The duration of a degree course is usually 3 to 4 years. For example: BBA is a 3-year degree course. A degree course is offered by a self-directed University or university.

Who can confer a degree?

Only a university can confer a degree. After a degree course, you can go for higher education to better your skills or look for a job in your field. It provides an overview of many subjects. There is one subject that you major in, called the specialization whereas other subjects are called electives.

According to industry environment, a degree holder is preferred over a diploma holder. Degree programs give more in-depth knowledge and impending start to your career. Degree courses are usually more high-priced and consume more time. The types of degrees are bachelor, master and doctorate.

Eligibility

A person must be an HSC or equivalent, to pursue a bachelor’s degree. One must possess a bachelor degree to pursue a master degree.

What is a Diploma?

A diploma is a short term course, lasting 1 or 2 years and is given by an institute. Polytechnic University in Haryana focuses on training a person in a particular field. The diploma is a certificate, given to the student by the educational institution for pursuing a specific course successfully. Admissions in a diploma course are done either on yearly or half-yearly basis depending on the policies of the institution. The type of diplomas is graduate or post graduate.

Who can confer a diploma?

An institute or a polytechnic can offer a diploma course. There is no need for the institute or the polytechnic to be AICTE approved. The course is planned in a way that the person gets basic hypothetical knowledge about the course. Practical training also forms an integral part of this course. Polytechnic University in Haryana have on-the-job training and focus more on practical exams. After a diploma, you can either enrol in a bachelor degree course or look for jobs. Diploma programs provide education within your given field.

Diploma courses do not offer good remuneration. Therefore, many students after doing diploma pursue a degree course to face this cut throat competition. On the other side, some students opt for job and do a correspondence degree course. This enhances their skills and potential giving a way to successful career.
