John, when a person in your circle of friends dies, do you go to their family and tell them, “don’t cry, all people die. Your [significant other] is no exception”? This is what you are doing right now. There is an obvious, basic truth to what you’re saying- “all lives matter”- but this is not the time to make the specific general.
The specifics of the last few incidents are hardly “misinformation,” though John. The two men recently murdered — I could say executed- because of the specific circumstances, are documented in quite illuminating and irrefutable fashion. And if you feel that protests are “antics”, well, that’s your opinion, just save it for another moment.
You and I are white. We do not have any understanding of what it is like to feel there’s a target on our backs. Yes, it’s just a “feeling”, but it is real and there is ample evidence that US police are especially prone to killing black men and boys who are not committing crimes at the moment of their killings. Black Americans are afraid, and as we’ve seen in recent days, they are angry. They have every right to feel both.
Your comments are insensitive, partisan, and ultimately, unhelpful.
