I’m with you there, no-one should kill any part of their authentic selves to ‘fit in’. I suspect people’s reactions to you is just an expression of their own fears related to being authentic in themselves.

By the way — going somewhat off-topic here, assholes and bullies are in no way assertive therefore they don’t assert, and as you’ve implied, they’re not really powerful. There’s a big difference between asserting and plain bullying.
