Day 87 Random thoughts
Today was the end of daylight saving time, and so the clock would be turned back an hour. This gives more sunlight in the morning, while the evening will be shorter and goes dark earlier. That’s why this morning when I got up, I felt that the sunlight was brighter than before. It’s not an illusion. It’s true!
Having not played table tennis for about a month, I decided to practice a bit in the afternoon. I hope to meet someone to play with. However, there was no one there, so I just played with myself and stroke the ball against the wall. I know that my skill level has “significantly” decreased, but at least I should maintain the basic feeling of forehand/backhand stroke and service so that I can make a comeback in the future.
Something unpleasant though. My host Poly was a bit unhappy with me this evening when I was cooking. She said that I used up the kitchen items such as salt, pepper, and compost bags too fast, and asked me to replace them myself if I would like to keep using them. Yup, I think she was right: the kitchen stuff doesn’t seem to be included in the rent though. So of course she allows me to use her things, I should just use proper and reasonable amounts and pay for the rest on my own. Actually, I often compare my stay to parasitism. I am exploiting the resources and causing disruption and inconvenience to the host. On the other hand, the host is tolerating me. As predicted by evolutionary theory, the best strategy for a parasite is to have intermediate virulence. In this way, the parasite will not cause too much harm to the host or even lead to system crash, while at the same time enjoy the benefits. I think I should really learn from nature!
