Sei in real life (Part-3). The technical improvements Sei will bring to DeFi
Good day, friends!
Glad to see you all already at the 3rd part of my little project “Sei in real life”.
In the previous two parts, we looked at the problems existing decentralized and centralized exchanges have, and also talked about how the Sei project can solve them.
In this part, as you might have guessed from the title, we will talk about the technical improvements that the Sei project can bring to DeFi. Let’s start studying.
Technical improvements
As you may remember, Sei — is the first level 1 blockchain designed for trading and improving the quality of exchange platforms.
Sei features the fastest time-to-completion in the industry with a lower bound of 300ms and built-in parallelization, making it ideal for trading functions.
Using two new advances in consensus research, Sei uses Twin-Turbo consensus to achieve levels of performance that no other Tier 1 has achieved.
In addition, Sei’s built-in matching mechanism and lead avoidance provide valuable benefit exchanges.
Finally, Sei’s ability to automatically merge orders increases application throughput and enhances the user experience for all applications built on top of Sei.
Why is Sei built as level 1?
Initially, there were thoughts and ideas to create Sei as a level 2, but as you might guess, the decision was made in this favor, and now I will tell you why.
Level 2 has several disadvantages:
- Decentralization. Each level 2 currently uses a centralized sequencer, which means that one entity is responsible for validating and executing user transactions. This leads to serious security, censorship and survivability issues.
- Throughput. Layer 2’s maximum throughput is limited by the underlying layer 1 block space it writes to. This leads to significant scaling difficulties.
By focusing on trading, the main use case for blockchain, Sei has created an attractive proposition for developers looking to create a universal layer 1.
Trading is universally important for all applications in Web3, including games, NFTs, and even social networks. By satisfying this fundamental need, Sei creates an attraction for users who want to explore any application built on Sei because trading is universal.
Well, that’s all for me, today we figured out what technical improvements the Sei project brings to DeFi. If you have not read the previous parts, then be sure to do it. You will find links below.
