Regime change may not be the target of this latest sabre rattling but just a feint to funnel money towards a large scale missile defense system that was developed and restrained originally by the ABM treaty with the USSR.

ABM defense did not garner much public support after the fall of the USSR and the US’s withdrawal from the ABM treaty but with ‘new threats’ it will be easier to justify yet another large expenditure of public monies to not only strengthen missile defense but also modernize the stockpile of existing nuclear weapons while rushing toward yet another destabilizing posture.

Of course, there will be a lot of money that will be gained by certain sectors from this renewed call for heightened defensive posture.
