As the excitement continues to build around Alignment Entertainment’s upcoming vampire series, Deathless, I had the opportunity to exclusively interview the stars of the show about their experiences on set, and get their views on what we can all look forward to from the series.

Thomas Curry

Thomas Curry is an actor and filmmaker born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. Curry is well-known in the Tallahassee film community for his role in creating and constructing the series over the past several years alongside his creative partner Victoria Robinson (more affectionately known as Vic Carnage). Thomas is the original creator of the show, which he tells us was once titled “Four Years,” and followed a very different story. Thomas stars in the show as the Halfbreed vampire Malcolm, and additionally served as co-director with Matthew Manyak and Executive Producer.

Mr. Curry’s character, Malcolm, is the ‘new kid on the block’ of the main trio of Halfbreed vampires, including the sexy and smart Gabriella (Autumnn Douglas) and the perpetually- intoxicated Daniel (Julian Maldonado). Together, the three of them navigate the grunge culture of the Halfbreed slums, and have a fun time partying it up at the renowned vampire nightclub Sanctuary while they’re at it.

With the opportunity to interview one of the show’s creators, and get some exclusive details on the story, I couldn’t help but get excited and inquire about the production’s underlying story. In response, Mr. Curry shared, “The story is about a vampire named Malcolm who is forced to undergo a journey…that introduces him to a rogue group of misfit Halfbreed vampires…and the uncovering of a secret and deeply sinister plan — the rebirth of an age-old evil the likes of which this world has too soon forgotten.”

Mr. Curry shares that his character, Malcolm, “has a hard time finding his identity and understanding his purpose,” going on to suggest, “he’s a character that tries to find things that he feels will complete him in places where there isn’t anything to find. He has trouble balancing or being able to differentiate his inner thoughts and emotions, which causes him to make rash and sometimes drastic and dangerous decisions.”

He then laughed and said, “I like him. He sounds like a great guy.”

When I spoke with Mr. Curry about what it was like for him playing a character like Malcolm, it certainly seemed like it was much more of a challenge than one might expect. Mr. Curry tells us that “playing Malcolm was actually challenging. He’s so different than myself. I often found myself bothered about how reserved he was,” he then added, “I’m more of a clown and a jokester a ‘social butterfly’ if you will. Malcolm can be annoyingly passive.” I then went on to ask Mr. Curry whether there were any similarities at all between him and his character in the show, to which he replied, “the one thing me a Malcolm have in common is his determination, but I might not go about it in the way he does though.”

Having been involved with the production since its original inception eight years ago, and now completing production of the series early this year, Mr. Curry shared some of his thoughts on the journey up until now, saying, “It’s honestly been a wild ride. It’s crazy looking back and seeing how far we’ve come. Seeing the individuals that were with us from the start grow as we moved forward has been amazing.” He then added (with a wide, pride grin on his face), “Seeing the project as it stands is something that’s indescribable to me a feeling of utter joy and appreciation. I’m truly thankful.”

With all the memories made on set, it seemed challenging for Mr. Curry to choose his favorite and most memorable part of the production, reminiscing, “To be honest with you the entire production feels like a dream come true. I enjoyed every moment of it working with some of the most amazing talent in and around Tallahassee.” This was a question Mr. Curry definitely took time to ponder, before answering, “If I had to choose a part I’d say when we wrapped the entire series.” He then chuckled and said, “I sometimes wish we were still filming.”

As the post-production team at Alignment Entertainment continues to work hard and move the project ever-closer to its completion, and the production’s lead executives currently taking meetings with international distributors at the American Film Market out in Santa Monica, California, Mr. Curry promises us we can look forward to, simply put, “a compelling story.” When I inquired, as I always do, as to what is next for Mr. Curry, he shared, with a positive tone, “season two hopefully.”

Mr. Curry currently resides in Portland, Oregon, and is continuing to develop his craft as a filmmaker, representing Alignment Entertainment on the west coast as the company’s Chief Operating Officer and getting involved in the local film community, promoting the arts and entertainment industry.
