STORIES FROM THE FIELD: THE HOANG FAMILY

For most of us, Christmas morning is a time when we head straight to the Christmas tree, excited to see what presents we’ll unwrap.

For the Hoang family, however, Christmas isn’t about the presents they receive. Every year, Long and Lindsay Hoang along with their six kids, Owen, Noah, Isaac, Levi, Lydia and Elsa, spend Christmas finding a way to give back to celebrate everything they’ve been given.

And this year was even more special. Earlier in 2013, the Hoang Family traveled to Ethiopia to adopt two baby girls, Lydia and Elsa, and bring them home as part of their family in Glen Rose, TX. While there, Lindsay and Long fell in love with the Ethiopian people and culture.

“After being in Ethiopia, we knew we didn’t want to leave the girls’ home country behind. We loved the humility and generosity of the Ethiopian people; even when they had nothing, they wanted to give,” Lindsay said.

This Christmas, the Hoang family wanted to show their commitment to their daughters home country, and reached out to Generosity Water. Instead of receiving Christmas presents, the entire family agreed they wanted to give a community in Ethiopia access to clean water.

As we wrap up this year, we want to celebrate families like the Hoangs. Because of their sacrifice, a community of 500 people in Ethiopia will receive a new water well, bringing this community opportunity for economic growth, better health, and overall improved quality of life.
