I’ve been on the both sides of the spectrum from leading engineer teams being forced to make the hard decision of quick fix or hack to meet a deadline. Causing the accumulation of technical debt.
More recently I’ve been focused on the product and features, pushing the engineering team to make the difficult decision to create tech debt. I happened on this video today by Poornima Vijayashanker and Jay Hum of Pivotal Tracker that explains it all pretty well and a great intro to how to deal with all the tech debt we accumulate. The intro is a great summary every startup CEO should have to watch.
Lesson learned as a product manager you can help your engineering team work with and through technical debt. Instead of being part of the problem work to become part of the solution.
