Our Daughters Can Be Whoever They Want To Be — and So Can We

A quote that has always resonated with me comes to mind when I read this post: “People will kill you over time. And how they’ll kill you is with tiny, harmless phrases, like “be realistic””. (Dylan Moran) I was lucky enough to have my parents raise me with a healthy disregard for the impossible. In turn, I believe it cultivated a desire to always explore, but the learning experiences, through trial and error, taught me enough to understand that being, say, a firefighter princess, isn’t impossible, though it won’t necessarily provide a sustainable income. Perhaps I’ll use that piece of me, instead, to inspire a character in a children’s book. There will always be a place in life for the “grown up” we fantasized about becoming when we were 5.
