Great article, but I feel like it ignores the fact that a lot of the interest in developing countries can stem from guilt that a lot of the conditions today are the result of exploitation and abuse from the West, and the feeling that we have an obligation to fix the problems that we caused. Of course the way to go about that is complicated, but I think the motivation is valid.
Also I don’t know about Skoll, but at least Ashoka, the social entrepreneurship organization it mentioned is funding entrepreneurs working within their own countries, it’s not funding Americans to work in other countries.
