Live Everyday Like It’s Your Last
A short reflection on life
I remember the first time someone told me: live everyday like it’s your last. I may not have realized, but it’s definitely stuck with me ever since.
I’m the type of person who can never go to bed angry, hold grudges, or have the last thing I say to someone I care about be something painful for the both of us. I want to live every second knowing that if it really was my last time seeing someone, it would be a memorable moment, not a regretful one. It’s the moments you share now with people that truly matter. If you spend your whole day worrying, carving out the risks, what-if scenarios, or planning ways to minimize damage and pain, are you really living? One thing I’ve learned (with my wise 19 years on Earth) is that what-if scenarios are like safety nets we use to help narrow down all the potential outcomes of any situations in our lives. We use this to map out and trace our next moves. Now, I know I’m making a generalization about everyone on this planet. Surely there are people who take risks every day of their lives, but I guess this is for the people who can relate to the problems that come along with over-thinking, worrying, and stressing.
Some things are inevitable in this world. Sometimes we know, but most of the time we are just as clueless as everyone else on this planet. We are mannequins walking blindly into the future, some of us stuck in store-front windows.
Nobody, and I mean nobody can actually predict what’s waiting for them on the other side. Sure, you may be able to choose whether you take the dirt road or paved path, but in the end the destination is just another mystery. Like in Mario Cart when you hit the mystery boxes — you either get hit with that damn banana that slows you down, or something great like the rainbow invisibility shield ‘thing’ that makes you feel like you’re conquering the world. Point is — we really don’t know what is to be and there’s no point for us to try to figure this out. Instead, we should treasure every moment because eventually…
