The designer i select is Josef Albers, the technique is “A sequence of material and formal transformations”. The technique can be defined as the transformation of the material’s form, for example, use paper to build a 3D modal, the key idea of this technique is the form’s switch of materials. Josef Albers was a German-born American artist(1888–1976). Albers used to be the students in the preliminary course of Johannes Letten at the Weimar Bauhaus in 1920. but the time of he really join the Bauhaus was 1922. In the early time of his career, he is mainly be the teacher and complete his design approach during his teaching experience. He was teach his students concentrate on the hands making without the help of the professional tools and machine. The reason is he believes the process of hand making will improve students’ feeling of material and also it will improve the hand making skills for students. The main idea of Albers’s class is help the students explore the possibility of the materials, for example, he will ask the students use the simple material such like paper, to extend the material to the various structures and different style model. And also, the economic is one key point of his design, he wants his students design efficiency economic and get the sense of material.

To follow Ablers design approach, i had try many different style of paper model. There are some drafts of my paper model, though what i understand of Ablers, i think the focus of Ablers paper design is the switch of 2D to 3D, and also the various structure of paper model, therefore i had try many different styles paper model, but the one i think have most possibility is the first one(figure2), because the structure of the first one is more flexible and also it shows the special element of paper more stranger. However, I try to follow the Ablers mind, i realised that the transformation form of the paper is not easy, because from the Ablers work, it always have the creative structure and involve design principles, compare the Ablers work and my final work(Figure 1), I find some common points the we both have a efficiency transformation form of paper and also the structure of our work both are flexible. When i creative my own design, the thing i concentrate is how i build a model with most efficiency way and it can shows the structure most stronger. For my own mind, i think Albers design is not only shows the switch form of material, but also he will use the material very efficiency and the structure of his work can shows the unique element of his material chose. So i follow the Albers design mind to build a paper model that i think it reflect the Albers design mind and also it shows the technique efficiency.
