Unless playing a game of Hide-and-Seek, knowing the location of things is good for everyone. For organisations it saves effort, time and money and provides a sense of security. This leads us to the third benefit of geospatial technology and in particular Geographic Information Systems (GIS):

Improved Cost Savings and Efficiencies.

Even if you don’t plan on working with GIS, it’s important to understand that alot of people in your organisation do or will rely on locational information for things such as customers and assets. The ability and ease with which professionals can work with this information has a knock-on effect throughout an organisation, particularly in terms of efficiencies and streamlined operations.

According to a report by the Boston Consulting Group (2012) for example the economic impact of the geospatial services industry on government, business, and consumers in the United States is estimated to be $1.6 trillion in revenues and $1.4 trillion (just under 9% of GDP) in cost savings.

As more countries emerge as major economies locational technology presents massive opportunities for getting it right from the start.

GIS allows us to locate and visualise things, people and places on a map and to strategically assess how they relate to each other. This means that we can build better workplaces and know everything is in order when we leave them.
