Yep I agree — we’re out. This is not a good thing significantly because within the EU it might be hoped progressive alliances could have been built to challenge the neo-liberal drift of the EU (TTiP et al). The key sticking point was the move towards a USE, something inevitable if the Euro is expected to work with a central bank -lender of last resort and proper redistributive tax mechanisms. The UK isn’t psychologically, culturally or socially in this space…yet. I imagine (because I’m a dreamer) that my children’s generation will re-visit this a few decades down the line and the merits to both the local and the supra-national in people’s lives will be better understood. For now it is grin and bare it — I’ve spent a lifetime being wrong about all sorts of stuff — I’ll add it to the list.
