Why do you say addiction is a disease?

Great questions, John. Addiction is considered a brain disease because drugs actually change the brain — they change its structure and how it works. People who are drug addicts and alcoholics will always be that way because the moment we use again, we’ll go right back to abusing the substance. We don’t have the ability to use in moderation. Our brains are forever affected, which means that we’ll always be drug addicts and alcoholics. It also helps remind us that we can’t go back, because the thought certainly crosses minds.
