Totally. I don’t blame people for being guarded. My father called his approach “cautious optimism”. Addicts end up hurting the ones closest to them, so I’m all for people having a guard up. That being said, addicts need support. I’m an advocate for not abandoning someone, although that’s easier said than done. Tons of patience and care is required.
