On the road again.

Term 3 started some time ago. And in the many days that have passed, there’s still no blog. I know there are many of you (ok, three or four) that have been demanding, “Hey, Orton, when’s the next blog coming”? So, here it is. In all its disjointed glory.

A spontaneous roadtrip

Starting the term with a road trip north was a wonderful way to refresh and remind myself of the one of the reasons I love teaching Geography. The joy of exploring, the sense of adventure and finding new places.

Not a bad way to start the trip (plus added whale sightings)

But back at school, Term 3 is always a busy one. School camps, assessment and reporting, but there’s a literal mountain on the other side of the figurative mountain of work to do this term. A colleague and I are going to walk the Annapurna Sanctuary in Nepal.

I’m pretty excited about visiting Nepal for the first time and meeting up with the Absolute Gurkha team in Kathmandu.

But that’s enough personal stuff. Here are the links, stories and resources I’ve been reading or using in class so far this term.

Resources from this term

What I’ve been reading

Zadie Smith — Swing Time

Antonia Hayes — A Universe of One’s Own

Tim Winton — My Island Home

Brit Bennett — The Mothers

Nathan Hill — The Nix (my favourite)
