A step by step guide
- First thing you need is to log in or sign up for the Digital Ocean website.
- Click on a green button which says Create.
- Select Droplets.
- In the One-click apps select WordPress.
- After that you will need to select the size of your droplet. The minimum for WordPress is 10$/mo plan which gives you 1GB RAM, 30GB disk space and 2TB transfer.
- Select the location of your server (the closer to your potential market the better) and any additional options if you want them.
- If you are already a DO user you might select the existing SSH key, if not — create a new one. The SSH key will be used to connect to your droplet through the terminal.
- After the installation process of Ubuntu and WP will be completed login to your droplet from the terminal with ssh root@ip_address_of_your_droplet to enable WordPress and set up a new root password
- Now if you would go to the ip_address_of_your_droplet you will see a WordPress installation first screen and then proceed from there normally.
A lot of people use WordPress with basic shared hosting and eventually they are not satisfied with the loading speed and blame WordPress on that. But before doing that just try one of the faster cloud services and chances are you will be surprised by the gain in speed.
