And when she tells him that she’s pregnant, she tells him, she plans to do it on her own because she can’t count on him. One day a lawyer shows up and talks to him about the fact that twenty years ago he was a sperm donor for about a year and his sperm was used to father over 500 children. And now over 100 of them want to know who he is but because he signed a confidentiality agreement, they can’t be told who he is. So they are going to court to try to get the confidentiality set aside. His lawyer tells him that they can win this. But when the lawyer who saw him gives him info on the ones who want to see him, he takes a peek at one and decides to go see him and not tell him he’s the father. He then goes out and checks out some of his other children and doesn’t tell them who he is and connects with them. His lawyer tells him it could jeopardize their case, especially since he can get a big settlement which he can use to pay back some people he borrowed from who “tell” him to pay or else. (IMDb)

Howl’s Moving Castle received positive reviews. As of August 2011, review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes reports that 87% of critics gave positive reviews, based on 157 reviews, certifying it “Fresh”. USA Today critic Claudia Puig praised it for its ability to blend “a childlike sense of wonder with sophisticated emotions and motives” while Richard Roeper called it an “insanely creative work”. Other critics described it as “a visual wonder”, “A gorgeous life-affirming piece”, and “an animated tour de force.” Roger Ebert, of the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it two and a half out of four stars, and felt that it was one of Miyazaki’s “weakest” films. Helen McCarthy in 500 Essential Anime Movies says that natural world is “beautifully represented here”, with “some absolutely breathtaking mountains and lakeside landscapes”. She also praises the design of the Castle and adds that Miyazaki added his own themes to the film: “man’s relationship to nature, the futility of war, and the joy of flight”. (Wikipedia)

While procrastinating for their mid-terms, three friends, attending college in New Orleans, haphazardly plan an inside robbery of the business where Daphne works, a gourmet cheese shop. Daphne, who outwardly appears the sweet girl-next-door, is certainly far from it. Daphne is entrusted with the nightly closing the Cheese Shop, and occasionally, during idle time at work, she fantasizes about robbing the place. When she inadvertently presents her fantasy to her guy friends, (Alex, who has an open crush on Daphne, and Vance, who once consummated a crush with Daphne), they rush aboard. That night, they decide to ‘case’ the Cheese Shop. After some brainstorming, they construct a foolproof plan. Alex and Vance will stop by the Cheese Shop, while Daphne closes the shop solo. Then, they will over-power and lock her in the bathroom. The money set aside for the night’s deposits will be taken, and Daphne will appear to be a victim of armed robbers. They think it’s genius. Once alone with Alex, Daphne states she has misgivings about the plan, and discloses all the bad luck, which followed her previous ‘breaking the law’ moment. Meanwhile, Vance is ingesting various pharmaceuticals, and is quite intent on carrying out the plan with, or without, their consent. Over the course of 24 hours, details of an awkward love triangle unfold as two of the friends back out of the robbery while the third meets the MILF of his dreams: Sexy, dangerous, and a mom . . . Osnap. So this is a must watch documentary that talks about the year 1977 in New York City. You’re probably thinking “hey big whoop, suck a penis” but that’s because you haven’t seen this film and you don’t know what a pivotal year that was; not only for the city of New York, but also as one that would define Americana in ways that we still feel today.

I have no idea what happens in this movie.
Some of the topics in the film include:
• The Gay rights movement which was just ramping up
• Hip Hop lifestyle from music, to breaking, to activism, to graffiti
• The NY blackout which resulted in mass looting but which helped to facilitate the rise of Hip Hop
• The Studio 54 club scene and the Disco craze • The shift in politics with a new mayoral race
• The Son of Sam killings
• CBGB’s and the rise of Punk and New Wave music in NYC
• The Drugs, crime and seedy New York atmosphere that facilitated it all
The documentary covers the wide range of topics efficiently and manages to keep from getting jumbled up, confusing or boring. There are great interviews from political candidates, New York socialites, members of the gay community, famous musicians, and a whole plethora of fascinating New Yorkers. The editing is tight, the music is great, the structure is magnificent and the subject matter is presented in a refreshing, engaging and educational way.
TL;DR — 10/10
I don’t like to give out 10 ratings, and reserve it only for films that I consider to have not only done everything right, but that also manage to be the type of thing that sticks with you after you’ve seen it. This movie did just that, as soon as I turned it on, I was hooked and I think you will be too. One of the best documentaries ever made, definitely check it out.
