Written by Max Landis and directed by David Ayer. This world has fantasy creatures live side by side with humans. A human police officer played by Will Smith is forced to work with an Orc-Joel Edgerton.

You quickly find out that Orcs are the underclass. Orcs are discriminated against where as Elves are elite. Humans are somewhere in between the two. Fairies sift through rubbish like sparkly, winged raccoons, and swatted like flies. As seen in one of the first scenes. Daryl (Will Smith) beats a fairy to death in his front garden.

The racial divide of the humans, Orcs and Elves is mirroring modern day America. The Elves at the top with their snooty personalities and Orcs at the bottom like trashy street thugs.

Nick Jakoby is the first ever Orc cop. He is excluded from his own kind and mistreated by humans. Including his partner Daryl. They are the traditional chalk and cheese partners.

These two unintentionally get their hands on a magic wand. They respond to a call to find a terrified elf Tikka. Then find this weapon everyone is prepared to kill for. This all important wand is like a nuclear weapon that grants wishes. It also makes you explode if you touch it.

There are people called ‘Brights” who are regulated by federal law. Only ‘Brights” can hold a wand without exploding. The magic wands are treated as weapons of mass destruction.

Once others catch wind of the where about’s of the wand, everyone is after it. Evil elves, local gangs of both humans and Orcs and corrupt cops. So Jakoby and Ward are scrambling around, dodging fire from latin gangsters, Orcish death cults and ninja elves.

Bright does become very predictable for a cop thriller. Jumping from locations like strip clubs, dark alleyways and empty warehouses. But is this to try and keep it close to normality?

Overall I found the film to be exciting yet confusing. It suited being watched wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa. With some chips and dip. You could laugh, cry and hide if you wanted.
