How does a Web3 Copywriter Profile look like in 2024?

It’s 2024. This is the year you should stop looking at things for what you think they are or for what others think they are and start looking at what they really are.

I know, we cannot get a hold of the supreme truth, but at least we can rely on solid facts.

Let me help you with this as I am paving my way towards becoming a Web3 Copywriter.

During the last couple of weeks I did some research to find out what it takes to become a Web3 Copywriter.

The use of my free time proves I am highly interested in Decentralization, Blockchain Technology, Crypto, Web3, Metaverse, Economics and Asset Tokenization.

I took the time and went through 37 Web3 Copywriting jobs from USA, Canada, Europe and UAE.

Among the 37 jobs:

  • 33 are Web3 Copywriter
  • 3 are Senior Web3 Copywriter
  • 1 is Web3 Junior copywriter

Also:

  • 16 are full time remote
  • 2 are full time in office
  • 2 are full time hybrid
  • 6 are project based 3 to 6 months (1 hybrid and 5 remote)
  • for 11 of them the schedule and location were not specified
  • according to yearly salary ranges, most of them should be full-time

The companies are activating in industries like DeFi, NFTs, Gaming, Finance, Advertising, Entertainment, Sports, Gambling, Metaverse, Marketing, Content Creation, Marketplaces, Cybersecurity and AI.

Some of the big names included in the research are Binance, OKX, Kraken, Rarible, MoonPay, VaynerMedia, Yuga Labs, Cash App and others with not so sounding names but very big ones.

Average yearly salary ranges are:

  • between $10.000 and $115.000 in USA, CA, EU, UAE for a Web3 Copywriter
  • between $113.000 and $225.000 for a Web3 Senior Copywriter in USA
  • between $31.000 and $60.000 for the only Web3 Junior Copywriter found in USA

Next is a classification of the tasks, skills and requirements of a Web3 Copywriting Job extracted from the 37 jobs I researched.

I would not consider them by how often they are mentioned (I know your ego is trying to make you comfortable and you might want become good at 2–3 skills, mediocre and 5–6 others and totally ignore the rest), but by how important they are, judging in terms of becoming excellent at the most impactful ones and creating a synergy effect for a maximized potential and world-class results.

Although writing and editing skills is being mentioned only 20 times, I would consider this as a no brainer for each copywriting and content writing job, unless the company, agency or even yourself as a freelance writer have an editor that just edits your texts.

Same with Impeccable English, you should be proficient no matter the job you’re applying to if this is the main language used by the company, agency or customer.

Let’s move now to the background requirements of a Web3 Copywriter:

  • 29 companies require either a deep understanding, strong interest or passion in blockchain, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, fintech, DeFi, Web3 or the specifics of the industry the company is activating in
  • 28 companies require proven professional work experience. Most of them are asking for 2–5 years of experience. Exceptions make the senior copywriters which should have 5–12 years of experience. Experience required overall is with copywriting, content writing, advertising, PR, media, SEO, branding or advertising in a company, a marketing agency or as a freelancer
  • 21 companies require a portfolio with samples and previous work containing copy of different types, lengths and purposes. Some examples are website content, blog posts, articles, landing pages, e-mails, ads, various social media posts, marketing campaigns, short form posts, long form posts, digital or printed formats
  • 9 companies require a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, finance or a related field
  • 7 companies require experience in collaborating with worldwide team and departments
  • 6 of the companies specifically required to understand, track and solve particular problems in the industry or sector
  • 2 companies specifically required strong understanding of digital marketing, SEO, social media

Let’s move on to the spicy part of a copywriting job - benefits.

Below is a list of the most mentioned benefits. Not all companies offer all benefits, but you can find or negotiate most of them if you have something valuable to offer through your work and experience.
