“Make Money So You Can Help More People”…?

Have you seen business/marketing coaches selling this idea:

“Make more money so you can help more people!”…

Chances are, they are using your higher ideals to try to sell you on buying their information product, training, or coaching. I want you to become aware of this line of thinking for 2 reasons:

★ Reason 1. Money has a corrupting influence.

You’re a human being.

Money is inextricably connected to the core human yearnings for Security (having food & shelter), Prestige (being accepted & loved), and Pleasure (vacations & gadgets).

Whenever money is involved, our idealism gets intertwined with our subconscious needs for security and prestige, and our wants for pleasure.

The constant seeking after money can corrupt any idealist.

☛ There are 2 ways out of this type of mental slavery:

(a) Awareness of our own corruptibility — how easy it is for us to stray, to be distracted, to get fixated and attached to money. To become aware of our daily need to come back to, to reconnect with, our higher/deeper truths.

(b) Daily practices such as reading to remind us of higher truths (what’s your favorite spiritual literature?), regular spiritual practices (meditation, prayer, spiritual journaling), being with others who help us become more aware and awake, continual vigilance through regular reminders (I have a to-do item that is set to pop up everyday to remind me to Redefine Success Everyday.)

★ Reason 2. You don’t need “more” money to help lots of people.

You just need enough money.

I offer myself as a case study:

A few years ago I was making a lot of money. People were buying many of my info products & coaching programs. And yet, I could see that although people loved buying my stuff, most of them either weren’t using it, or weren’t successful at achieving the results my sales pages had promised. I stopped selling those things.

Today, I give away all my knowledge. Even though I’m now making 3x less money than before (although gratefully, I am still making enough to support myself), I can see that I am now helping many more people because they tell me how much my free content is making an impact on them.

To help lots of people, what you most need is TIME, COMPASSION, and ACTION.

Compassion naturally arises from engaging with others who need your help.

The more action you take with your higher intentions, the more you grow in your ability to help others.

☛ Here’s how you can help lots of people for free or low cost: share freely on the internet what you have learned in life. It doesn’t cost you a penny more if a thousand more people read your posts on Facebook, or if they watch more of your Youtube videos. It costs you nothing. (Read more on why I believe it benefits everyone — you included — when you share information for free.)

☛ Remember this — what may seem obvious to you is actually life-changing to other people. For example, what I’ve written in this post is “obvious” to me, but for some, it will be an “aha!” moment that shifts the direction of their life.

Truly, you don’t know how you affect others.

For every “like” you get, every comment, every share, how many more people saw that post, were influenced by it, but never took the time to let you know?

Many more.

It’s like voting: for every person who votes, how many more agreed with that issue?

You don’t have to figure out how many people are being helped by you.
All you are called to do is to share what you’ve learned freely.

Post your advice, your tips, your observations. Pick your favorite social media platform (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Tumblr) and share your advice there. Or start a blog on medium.com or LinkedIn. None of this costs you any money.

Or create YouTube videos. (As an example, I’ve uploaded 100 free business tip videos in 2015 and 70 in 2014.)

You cannot even imagine how many people will be helped if you do this.

When you feed someone, they are full for a meal, then hungry soon again. When you share your advice and empower them to feed themselves, they are changed for life.

They can then go on to help others.

Don’t wait. Start helping now. You don’t need to “make more money first.”

Start now even for 5 minutes: share a piece of advice, a tip, a lesson you’ve learned. Share something might be helpful, even if it’s “obvious” to you.

It’s the “world wide web” — your sharing is making an impact on that web, and you cannot see how far the ripple goes.

The biggest help you can give to others is to influence their minds, uplift their hearts, and help shift their behaviors toward a wiser and more compassionate life.

Start today.

Also, you don’t have to feel “ready.”

None of us are “ready.”

What about those of us who do share? We just keep sharing, and over time, we become proficient at it. Just start simply. Even if it’s just posting 1 sentence to facebook.


In summary, be aware when someone tells you “Make more money so you can help more people!” (1) Money can corrupt anyone, even idealists. We need practices to remind ourselves to return to our higher intentions, everyday. Less obsession about money, more thinking about helping. (2) Understand how to make enough money. (3) You don’t need any more money to help a lot of people, virtually everyone connected to the internet can be helped by you.

For every 100 people who try to become a Bill Gates to save the world, maybe 1 gets close. 99 are still chasing money, focused on the idea that one day… one day… one day… they will finally help a lot of people.

Do you see the mirage you may be chasing?

Stop postponing your playing big in service to the world. Help more people today.

By returning to our higher intentions everyday, we will be in a much better place as we make money, as we become wealthy if that is our life path. We will be unattached by the money, incorruptible because we cleanse our minds and hearts everyday.

Be one of the good ones.
