Reimagining the way films are created

How many times have you been working on a project and found yourself running into logistical or physical limitations? How many times have you known exactly what sort of shot you needed, only it was of a location that was halfway around the world? How many times have you had an amazing idea that needed more than your own efforts to come to life? I’ve seen and experienced these limitations, and it’s why I’ve worked to create Movidiam. With Movidiam, we’re looking to reimagine the way films and other video projects are created.

Movidiam is a creative network that allows filmmakers, brands and agencies across the globe to connect and collaborate to create innovating and unique content. It’s an exciting paradigm shift not just in terms of technology, but also of the mindset that creatives bring to a project. Movidiam enables people who are located on opposite ends of the globe to be able to work together, so it’s also redefining the working environment of creative professionals at every level.

Finding and Working with the Right People

Having run a film production agency in central London, I’ve seen first-hand just how hungry brands are to regularly produce films which satisfy their social media, content-hungry audiences. Business are demanding quality, relevant and, dare I say it, ‘viral’ material but are still troubled by how to produce great work effectively and on budget. With more pressure than ever on creative to deliver something amazing, I know how important it is to find and have the right people working on a project.

All the films I’ve produced with real ‘heart’ have been produced by teams that truly understand the scope of work and the purpose of commissioning. It’s these projects, fuelled by a passion for the product or message, that are received well and travel the furthest. It’s really about finding and assembling a team that’s the right fit, and that process is optimised by a blend of geo-location, experience and existing portfolio work. Those “best fits” aren’t always in your direct vicinity though, which meant figuring out how to find and work with people regardless of where they happened to be located was a problem that needed a solution.

Thus, Movidiam was born.

Living and Working in Media Production

Based on my experience, projects are positively impacted by professionals who can bring a variety of skillsets and visions to the process. Those professionals are often based all over the world though, and with time zones and schedules and other logistics, collaboration can be a pain. Movidiam is revolutionising the means by which that collaborative process can take place.

The service provide filmmakers, agencies brands and just about anyone who needs to find the right fit for a project with the essential features to help them streamline the filmmaking process, meaning they can focus on the creative as opposed to the administrative side of things. At Movidiam, it’s our goal to raise the profile of freelancer filmmakers to ensure that their portfolios and expertise are well presented to those seeking their skills.

Updating your reel or resume is often the last thing you want to do after wrapping a job. I’ve seen that freelancers often undersell themselves by having a dated or poorly maintained personal website. Movidiam changes all that, ensuring the latest, referenced work is clearly visible and eliminates the hassle on the freelancers’ part.

New Opportunities and New Challenges

The HDSLR revolution democratised filmmaking, creating opportunities for a new generation of highly capable filmmakers with finely tuned production skills to produce quality films for brands and business. The paradigm shift in technology (think 5D when it first arrived, Go-Pro, DJI drones, Blackmagic cameras, Adobe CC and many other creative software programs) has given ‘unreal’ capabilities to filmmakers at an accessible price point. It’s opened doors in a way few would have ever imagined twenty or even just ten years ago.

The technology is truly omnipresent, but it’s still challenging to find the right creative minds to produce this content. We all know that new-age production companies crew up and down based on projects in the pipeline – I’ve worked that way myself. Movidiam gives these companies further cost-saving options for building teams in the ‘cloud’ as well as the ability to resource and manage projects using a centralised dashboard to operate communications and assets.

As a freelancer, you’ll benefit from this as it gives you the opportunity to find these projects when they become available and figure out where or how you can fit into them. Since you’re not limited to projects that are directly in your vicinity, you’ll be able to find countless opportunities.

Streamline your process

Each and every day I see incredible, dynamic work appearing on the web from brands, businesses, agencies and passionate individuals. It’s obvious that there’s an incredible amount of blood, sweat and tears that goes into all of it. But it’s the little things that often get in the way of seeing that passion turned into something truly special.

Think of the crumbled paper call sheet with key numbers missing from it. That might mean a key element in the project is now missing. Think of the client review process that involves multiple calls, texts and voicemails. At a certain point, you’re not even sure what the original vision is anymore. These are the details that bog down a project and distract creative from what they’re supposed to be concentrating on.

Movidiam aims to give these functions a streamlined makeover that feels intuitive and has the social web central to their construction. Movidiam’s reimagined world of filmmaking includes dynamic call sheets that auto-populate. It lists coffee shops, and local hospital information based on a single postcode. It features a video review system that provides one simple canvas to comment on and feed back to the whole team, from editor and producer to client simultaneously.

In short, it allows the creatives to stay focused on the creative.

Be part of the creative grid

How many ‘creative’ agencies still use a friend of a friend to shoot the promo film recently commissioned by their valued client? This same client is now becoming increasingly aware of the importance of quality video content but not necessarily on how to access the talent. And a large part of that is because they have no idea how to find that talent.

Movidiam provides this market with access to an exceptional talent pool. It’s a pool that is enriched by remarkable tools to produce what, a decade ago, only Hollywood could produce.

The days of searching Vimeo profiles, navigating twitter hashtags or looking at social network check-ins to determine where filmmakers are going to be a thing of the past very soon. Movidiam’s core feature set builds this communication grid for you.

Get paid — fast

How many times have you been paid 90 or even 120 days after your production involvement — and in some extreme cases, never at all? Movidiam’s e-wallet system operates a scheduled payment engine with summary contract notes which prioritises payments and the support structure surrounding filmmakers. Our system gives security to the freelancer, the agency and the brand in the shape of a more formal agreement.

The time is right to support this amazingly creative industry through a platform that looks to evolve and enhance the everyday working experiences of filmmakers around the world.
