Mac Cursor disappeared in high resolution monitor? Here is a quick fix.
Recently I just bought a LG 4K Display. It is gorgeous and I very much enjoyed working with it. However, it did not take long before I ran into a very annoying problem: the cursor mysteriously disappeared in iTerm and Visual Studio Code. This is unbearable as I spend hours working with these two apps every day. So I decided to figure out a fix.
The solution turned out to be very simple. First we need to go to Accessibility in System Preferences.
Then go to the
Display section right under it and increases the Cursor Size to somewhere after the first notch.
Bang. Everything starts to work again, at least for me.
As a side note, I initially only slightly increased the cursor size, which is already enough to make the cursor reappear in iTerm and Visual Studio Code. However, just when I am trying to take a regional screen shot when writing this post, the cross cursor for region selection disappeared again. So I tried the same method, but making the cursor size one notch bigger, and it worked.
I have reported this bug to Apple’s Mac OS team. The pattern here is clear: some cursor shapes disappear on high resolution without increasing the cursor size. Hopefully we can get a fix soon.
