Dream on…

When I was a child I used to dream a lot about the future. This sense of the unknown and about how am I gonna be when I grow up, was so engaging for a child’s mind who had no idea of how the world looks like, outside the safety of the parent’s house. I can tell that there was always a need inside me to become independent and open my winds to explore as much as possible.
When someone was asking me what I want to do for a living when I grow up, every time I was giving a different answer, but all of the answers had a common point: the art! Sometimes my answer was “ a ballerina” (well actually that was the most realistic of all the others, cause I was dancing taking classes since I was 4), some other times the answer was “a musician” (I was so passionate about becoming a famous musician that I actually took guitar lessons for several years but fate had different plans) and other times the answer was “a painter” or “an architect”. Thankfully, I didn’t try the last two ones, because I’m afraid that the results would have been a disaster!
Nevertheless, I tried enough for the half of them and even if I didn’t manage to become neither ballerina nor musician, all of these experiences gave me beautiful memories and important lessons for my adult life. From all the lessons, there are 3 that I concern to be the most effective…
1. The most important lesson taught me to fight and work hard for what I want to take and even more, for what I want to become, no matter the result! Because there is no useless knowledge and no wasted effort.
2. The second thing I learned is not to care about what other people say or think about me and my dreams. It’s my life and my dream and after all, I didn’t even ask for your damn opinion!
3. Last but not least, I learned to always have a dream to work for. If the one doesn’t work out, skip to a new one, but never run out of dreams!
Well maybe you now think that all these are ridiculous or that I am a hopeless romantic person or something, but what if I told you that these childish dreams showed me the way to my current career? Crazy, right? This is how it happened….
Well, it was always clear that I wanted to be creative in everything I do. After I gave up the efforts to become a ballerina and a musician, it was the time to decide what my academic studies would be. Then the difficult part came, as I had to find a field of studies that combined my abilities, the creativity part and that was able to become my new dream.
After I spent weeks thinking about my future and searching all the departments in the Greek universities, I finally saw the light in the end of the tunnel… Advertising!! Voila! That’s a creative job for me… making brand new ideas to promote products (although I had absolutely no idea about the digital advertising part and how many different branches there were under the “Advertising” umbrella).
Besides my parents’ reservations about this career, as they would prefer me to become a teacher (HELLOOO HAVE YOU MET ME?), I entered the University Ι chose. Not that there is something wrong with the teachers, it’s just too far from me and my dreams. It turned out I did the right thing…
In the end, a ballerina, turned to a musician, turned to an advertiser, is now following her dream that was born from her previous dreams… to become a great and experienced Copywriter! And this time I am closer than ever. Of course, I am still making dreams for the future, what are they? I’m not going to tell for the time being…
Now, I’m more than sure that I am not the only person in this world who tries to follow their dreams. Pretty much, that’s what we all are trying to do. So feel free to share your story too, give some love if you liked mine and, above all, dream on…!
