Hong Kong_1
We have only been in this city for a day and Hong Kong is already intoxicating. I am itching to explore and dive into all the different worlds that this city has to offer. The day started with a little bit of heat stroke and the realization that Hong Kong is nothing like the quirky rural China that we came from.
As we begin to learn how to navigate our way through the Hong Kong city life. You can find pockets of nature and temples nestled within pastel sky scrapper buildings. Our first adventure for the day was visiting the Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple. As we walk towards an army of Chinese animal status. The offering and mediation of the locals surround and awaken the temple. As we wonder through this peaceful place you are impressed by the attention to detail and creativity that encompasses the temple. Each motif, each shrine was clearly thought out and reflected the God they were honouring. The temple was a majestic mix of delicate structure and entangled nature. Encased by the peeps of blue sky and pastel mismatched sky scrapers.
Leaving the temple, we slowly move towards the Soho area of Hong Kong. As we pass through Monasteries. We stop to enjoy a banquet amongst the waterfalls and greenery of the local monastery. This is where my obsession with crystal veggie dumplings began. As we sit, wander and galivant around I begin to notice the quirks and fashion of the Hong Kong city goers. And realise that it is far from the way in which Australians dress.
As the day turns into the afternoon we find ourselves in another Temple, The Man Mo Temple. Found at the end of Hollywood Rd in the Soho Area. This temple is small and is clouded with the presence of burning incense. The temple worships Man Tai the god of literature and Mo Tai the martial god. As the locals shuffle into the tiny little temple. I realize that Hong Kong is bursting with history, history that they still respect and honor daily. Their culture is embedded throughout the pockets and tails of the city, which bring such an abundance of character to this place.
Stay tuned for the mishaps and lost moments that Hong Kong will bring…
