Cosplay is a play on the words ‘Costume Play’ and it has gained fast popularity across the world (especially in the west).

If you’re new to the geekdom and are excited and anxious about your first cosplay event, fear not! We’ve included a list of beginner-friendly cosplay ideas for girls and boys! These easy anime cosplay ideas are really good for beginners and are at a low cost so you can look cool on it with a low budget too.

1) Yato from Noragami

Yato is much beloved by fans of Noragami for his hilarious personality and complex past, he also happens to one of the easiest characters to cosplay too! The jersey-clad gods’ outfit can be easily mimicked by pairing a black or dark blue tracksuit or even just a black jersey pant and top with a zipper down the middle, you can take it the extra mile by adding some tape for the single white strip down his arms. Add a ragged white scarf to match and you are good to go! If not you can go for the past iteration of his costume design which is a simple black Yukata.

2) Saya from Blood +

Otonashi Saya from Blood + has a very easy outfit at the beginning of the show, it is a simple ensemble which can be put together with a flared mini skirt, white shirt, and red bow tie. Add in the sword and you are ready to slay some chiropterans!

3) Kiki from Kiki’s delivery service

Kiki’s plain black dress has been a first cosplay costume for many beginners and will be easily put together, don’t forget the red bow on her hair and the peach toned shoes. You can add in a broom, orange satchel and perhaps a black cat to complete the look!

4) Luffy from One Piece

Luffy is definitely one of the easiest cosplayer characters, all you need are a red vest, denim shorts with frayed edges, sandals and a straw hat and you are ready to go.

5) Chihiro from spirited away

Chihiro’s outfit from the beginning of ‘Spirited Away’ can be replicated with a pair of orange shorts, a white (slightly large) T-shirt which you can paint on the green stripe coupled with a pair of yellow sneakers and white socks.

6) Armed detective agency from Bungou Stray Dogs

Pretty much all the characters in Bungou Stray Dogs wear somewhat stylistic office clothes, all of which can be achieved with normal clothing you may already have or can purchase from your local mall.

7) Shizuo and Izaya from Durarara

Another easy cosplay is Shizuo with a simple white shirt, black, and pants. Izaya too can be done simply with a black jacket and you can add some fur trimmings for a very low cost.

8) Sadao Maou from The Devil is a Part Timer

Possibly one of the simplest costumes, a simples uniform from a fast food franchise or look alike and you are good to go!

9) Misty from Pokemon

A very nostalgic character from possibly everyone’s childhood, Misty is easily cosplayed with a simple yellow crop top, denim shorts, red suspenders and red converse perhaps? and if your hair natural color isn’t orange which I think is the majority you might want to use a wig but that’s completely optional oh! and Don’t forget your Poké ball to complete the look!

10) L and Light from Death Note

Last but most certainly not least, Light Yagami and L have two of the easiest costumes ever, L specifically, His look can be easily recreated with a pair of blue pants and loose, long-sleeved, plain white sweatshirt. Lights will require only a little bit more effort, the brown pants and white shirt will be easy enough to find in your own closet. The trick to nailing this costume would be to pair it with a nice red tie and your very own Death Note!
