David Clerk-Hutton Because white people are the ones responsible for the institution of slavery here in America. Because it has never been fully addressed and there has been no compensation in any way-black people of African American ethnicity never got their 40 acres and a mule. Because people are still feeling the affects of America’s slavery and the racism and Jim Crow laws that came from it. Because the number of people who fought to abolish slavery pales in comparison to the number of white people who fought for it or were apathetic. Because whoever the black and brown people owning slaves today are, they are not African Americans. Because it’s not about individual white people but an institution and system of white people’s benefit from a past system of oppression and entitlement.
