I recently got into a very hot debate over the difference between “needing someone” and “wanting someone.” I argued that “want” is a greater, more noble quality whereas my counterpart argued “need” is greater because it was like air or water — can’t live without it.

I never want to need someone or be needed for someone else to be alive. What a burden to carry.

Nobody really won the argument. I wanted to; she needed to.
