Climb trips

The app for arranging trips between rock climbers. Check the proposed trips list, filter by date, level, spot,… or just propose a trip and select your partners by their criteria and reviews. You won’t miss a climbing day ever again.
Challenges and insights from the research
Let’s start at the beginning, originally my idea was to create an app to gather all the climbing maps with the routes and unify them in one place.
That was the idea, but the magic of UX research made its job: people had other needs and preferences.
I asked climbers what they do if their usual partner stands them up(due to some eventuality), some of them(14%) cancel the plan and the rest use Facebook/Whatsapp groups to find someone to go with. The problem wuth this method is that is slow, sometimes they don’t get an answer or they just don’t want to go with someone they don’t know.
Considering climbing is a dangerous sport where you trust your life in your partner, how can we make people trust a stranger and take the plunge?
So my last question was if they would go with a stranger if they had reviews or rating of different characteristics of them. Finally I got an answer that everyone agreed with.
Get down to work
First of all, we need personas. I came up with two different personas:

For the MVP I had to cut many features I had in mind, this would be a basic flow:

A very important step in the process for me is sketching with paper prototypes and testing them with real people not involved with the project yet, specially not myself. It’s a very quick method to see painponts in the flow.

With the new information from the testing it’s time to start with the wireframes to get deeper.

So after the final testing here you have the final UI. The colour palette is in dark grey and brown reminding to the stones and rocks. My main goal was to create a very clean and simple interface so the user only has to focus on the main purpose: see the trips, propose a trip and connect with other users(considering their rates and reviews).
