Central Park Hacks // [How-To Guide]

…always knowing where you are inside Central Park

I know more about Central Park than I care to admit. One of my many skills includes yelling made up facts loud enough for tourists to hear.

“If you squint and tilt your head you can see the Memorial for Stuart Little by the Model Boat Pond. Bless his fury little soul.”

Now the reason you’re here.

I want to share with you the Central Park hack I hold near and dear to my heart.

Every lamp post throughout Central Park has a number assigned to it, that when read correctly tells you exactly where you are inside the park.

For example: 7326 - East 73rd Street

It’s useful, simple to understand and the next time you stumble out of Sheep Meadow alone during the day drink you can easily alert your friends where to find you!

How-To Read Central Park Lamp Posts

Using 7326 as an example follow these steps and you’ll be impressing all the bumble/tinder matches you take on “free dates” in the park in no time.

  1. There are two parts to determining your location using a lamp post. The first two numbers and the last two numbers. Think of it as 73 & 26.
  2. The first two numbers tells you what street you’re on.
  3. The last two numbers tells you what side of the park you’re closest too. An even number stands for the east side. While an odd number represents the west side.

Put it all together… 7326

[73] 73rd Street | [26] East Side (Even)

You’re on East 73rd Street!

That’s all folks
