Well, then you decide how significant each of your racial roots is for you. What does it matter if it’s a half, a 1/32th or a 1/128th, if it is important to you? Who would be entitled to criticize what’s important to you?
An entirely other matter is what you claim to other people. But there, we get into all kinds of problems. It starts with the very crude categorization that is common in the USA. I’d be considered “white” or “Caucasian”, but in reality I’m actually very mixed. On a very rough level, without going into details, there’s a high likelihood of Germanic, Celtic, Slavic, Roman. Where is “white”? I have difficulty to check the “white” box. Or take “Asian”… I’m not Asian, but as far as I know, there are hundreds of very different ethnicities in Asia (or maybe at least a dozen or so big ethnic groups). What’s the purpose of putting them into a single “Asian” pot?
