LeVar Burton reads—to adults.

As someone who lists both Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation on my personal “Top 5 TV Shows of All Time” list, LeVar burton is a childhood hero of mine. Through the pages of books and the mysteries of the holodeck, Burton guided me through countless adventures during those young years of idyllic imagination—arguably the most developmentally fertile period of anyone’s life.

So it’s no coincidence that I—alongside millions of other young adults that grew up with a strong affection for both shows—love LeVar Burton. And I love the fact that LeVar himself is very aware of this love.

“I think a bucket-list item for a lot of millennials is to have LeVar Burton read them a bedtime story.” — LeVar Burton

That self awareness is 1/2 of why Mr. Burton has won the hearts of so many individuals. The second 1/2 is how he leverages that influence (his Kickstarter fundraiser for developing a new Reading Rainbow app brought in $5,408,916 from 105,857 backers).

Now, he’s back at it again with a new podcast—for adults.

“It has been kind of overwhelming, the response to the podcast,” he said. “And it really does prove what we’ve all known our entire lives — that we all love to be read to.”

Whether you share my affection for Burton or not, we can all agree that being read to is a wonderful experience that most of us could use more of in our lives.
