Realizing the ‘Sound of Silence’

‘Sound of Silence’ … a thought-provoking phrase isn’t it?
We humans take sounds around us for granted. We have developed the ability, or rather habit, of simply ‘hearing’ rather than actually listening. When do we take out the time to observe & appreciate each sound, with the gift of listening, bestowed by God itself?
Silence isn’t just quietness..
One such individual who, as you would read on further, would be a true example of a person who has genuinely understood the silence. A victim to a paralytic attack when she was only 6 months old, lost complete mobilization from the neck downwards.
In spite of doctors turning down the possibilities of even walking, she began to take her 1st steps on her feet as soon as the age of 3.
But, she wasn’t able to regain her ability to hear properly, as a result, her ability to speak degraded considerably. It also took about 2–3 years for her to pick up on communication.
Rising above her disabilities, she attended regular school at Shivaji Vidyamandir at Aundh & scored a superb 63% in her S.S.C. Boards!
The individual in this story, is none other than Prerana Sahane.
She has received unconditional & immense support from her parents, Mrs. Ujjwala Sahane & Mr Keshav Sahane.
Nothing could ever shake their confidence & faith in their daughter’s potential.
Her parents recognized her passion for dance & approached Guru Shumita Mahajan, who openly accepted Prerana & trained her with fine dedication at Sadhana Nrityalaya.
She then went on to train religiously & began performing at various programs in India.

“I tap ghunghroos on her hand. Also, when I show her the taals and dhuns with my hands, she picks up the pattern very easily,” says Guru Shumita Mahajan.
Some of her notable programs are :-
1. Rabindranath Tagore’s centennial anniversary programme with Shumita’s dance troupe in a ballet called ‘Bhanusingher Padavali’, Calcutta.
2. ‘GeetRamayan’ , Pune.
3. Arangetram Tilak Samarak Mandir , Pune.
4. Bal- kalyan Sanstha, Pune
5. Rotary club, Deccan
6. Anant Fandi Natyagrah , Sangamner, Dist-Ahmadnagar
7. Shilpa Society, Pune
8. Anandam Cultural Oraganisation,Khodhwa, Pune
9. ‘Aashayein’ on ZEE TV
BleeTech Innovation is proud to be part of Prerana’s Musical Journey. Prerana used the Blee Band for one of her performances, Abhinay Geet at Balgandharva Rangamandir, Pune. Blee converted the music into vibration counts and Prerana danced to it, independently! For the First time ever!
This year, Prerana was awarded the National Award, ‘Role Model’ for the Empowerment of persons with Hearing Disabilities.
This was awarded to Prerana by Arun Jaitley, the current Finance Minister of India, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the 3rd of December. [see the picture at the beginning.]
She also got The Rukmini Puraskar, awarded by the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU).
This award is for woman achiever in the field of agriculture, art, science, sports, social work, consistently working for 10 years or more.

Perhaps the reality is that we human beings need to appreciate every single blessing we have & make the best of it. We focus too much on the negative or missing aspects of our lives & miss out on achieving our true potential, says Prerana’s mother in a book authored by her.
Based on the journey of how they raised & supported their daughter to reach the heights she has conquered today, the book explains the courage & true killer instinct Prerana displayed through her efforts to achieve her real dream.
Prerana is by far one of the perfect examples of realizing one’s caliber & conquering heights in life.
Prerana’s passion, along with intense perseverance & her parents’ love & full support & also her Guru’s religious mentoring, is the perfect combination for this well nurtured & developed human being who is also a skilled Bharatnatyam Dancer.
“ For me He has a unique plan
I belong to His special clan
The clan that hears the inner voice
The clan that shuns all other noise
I believe He is there in my Silence
I have known today His essence.
In me He resides, in my limbs and face
To Him i give my all and seek his grace”
- A poem, written to Prerana, by Dr. Anil Awachat, a renowned Marathi Author & Pune based Social Activist.
