MIRZA is the first social-network missing pet alert service of its kind. This is how it came about…

The singer

If you are French (like us) or Russian you will have heard of the singer Nino Ferrer. If you are not — never mind and please keep reading! Nino’s most famous song was ‘Mirza’ and the lyrics went something like this ‘Where is Mirza? I’ve lost my dog Mirza! Have you seen him?’ It was a great song and a huge success — but a huge success because everyone understands losing their dog / cat / rabbit… In the US alone 10 million pets go missing every year. In France over 100,000. Every one of us has at least heard someone calling out for the lost pet even if we haven’t experienced it ourselves.

The lyrics of Mirza are a daily occurrence happening all over the world.

“In the US alone 10 million pets go missing every year. In France over 100,000.”

The dog flyer

It’s this song that inspired us to call our service MIRZA but it was something that happened in the summer of 2014 that was the inspiration for the app. On the same day, we both(founders of Mirza) saw the same flyer in separate bakeries of a missing dog. We both thought the same thing — how could 2 flyers in bakeries close to each other help when a missing pet could travel up to a 100kms away from it’s home in one day? And so the idea was born to create an app which would alert a community much wider than the bakeries to look out for the missing pet.

“The idea was born to create an app which would alert a community much wider than the bakeries to look out for the missing pet.”

10m Ace Ventura

We started to look at online sites designed for pet lovers. Everywhere we saw the same thing — and engagement and a solidarity of these communities bigger and stronger than anywhere else on the internet. Even Beyoncé or Manchester United looked weak compared to them!! 66% of American’s consider their pets their best friends and 33% see them as their children. All of us are commited pet owners — the solidarity is mind-blowing and universal!

So the ambition was born to create the first global pet detective community. Too many of our cats and dogs are stolen every year. Too much time is wasted contacting all the relevant people and institutions involved. The existing search tools mean that too small an area of search is covered and so too few pets find their way home. We have to do something about this.

“the ambition was born to create the first global pet detective community”

In our next episode we will show you the solution. It’s called MIRZA.

Woof Woof.
