From PikMoments to Pixet

What’s in a name: The whole story

Branding your product is a great challenge, you hear this phrase many times, but you know the gravity only when you are actually doing it yourself. Coming up with a name that embodies everything you want to achieve with the product, a name that your customers can relate to, and a name for which you can find an available domain, can take days and even weeks.

About 6 months ago, we sat down with a list of words remotely related to photography, cameras, moments; a dictionary and thesaurus and taking all the possible advice from the internet and our friends. After days of vetoing and elimination, we finally decided to stick with PikMoments. It’s “picking moments” and “using pictures to capture moments”. It was perfect, and everyone was happy.

Along with a name, we were looking for a logo. Some head scratching later, we came up with a very simple one, which evolved over months to look like this.

Everything was going great, until one day very recently, we discovered that a part of the name had a different and disturbing interpretation in another language.

So there we were, back to the whiteboard, going through the same process over again. So this time we looked into all possible meanings in all possible languages just to be sure! But to our delight, we did come up with a new name “Pixet”, and we love it. You can now find us at

Why did we pick this name? It comes from “pixel perfect”. So voila, we have a new name that is everything we want it to be, and has a nice ring to it. Doesn’t it?

We wanted to do a major overhaul with our brand, so along with the name, we decided to come up with a new logo.
